The Office of Research Services (ORS) is the first point of contact for faculty
members who are seeking financial support for their research. The ORS provides researchers with access to information on the funding programs of major national and
provincial granting agencies as well as a multitude of less prominent funding sources. The ORS also serves as liaison with all major funding agencies, keeping abreast
and advising researchers of changes in funding programs, and associated guidelines and application procedures, as well as new directions and initiatives.
ORS provides assistance to researchers in preparing funding proposals, particularly those of a large-scale collaborative nature. The ORS also initiates
and coordinates visits to the University by program officers of the national granting agencies in order to provide university researchers with access to first hand information about new programs
and directions of these agencies.
All research grant applications as well as contract proposals are reviewed by the ORS staff prior to their submission to ensure compliance with the policies and requirements of the University
and the funding agency. Once awarded, all research contracts with the federal and provincial government and not-for-profit sector are negotiated by the ORS on behalf of the University and its
researchers. Research contracts with industry are negotiated by the Innovation Management Office.
The ORS administers the University's internal research support programs as well as its animal care and human subjects ethics program. The ORS also works in collaboration with
the Office of Communications to promote the research mission and accomplishments of the University. In addition, staff of the ORS act as a resource to the Senate Research Committee and
its various sub-committees.
