Government Publications

The Government Publications Collection consists of publications on various subjects issued by international, national, provincial, regional, and local governments. There are two collections of government documents: the CODOC Collection and the DOC Collection. Publications with the CODOC and DOC shelf numbers are listed in the Online Catalogue. There is no subject access to pre-1989 CODOC publications in the Online Catalogue. Search the Online Catalogue for these older publications by Keyword Relevance or Title Keyword. Current federal and Ontario statutes and regulations are located behind the Reference Desk on the main floor of the library. Statistics Canada and Canadian Census publications are located on the Main Floor of the Library by the Reference Collection. Both the CODOC and the DOC Collections are located on the ground floor.

COLLECTION

The DOC Collection consists of publications such as legislative debates and statutes. The CODOC Collection is comprised of research studies, reports of royal commissions, task forces, statistics and census publications. Full depository collections of Canadian federal and Ontario provincial government publications as well as selective publications from other provinces and countries are maintained in the Library. While the majority of the collection is located on the ground floor, government publications are also found elsewhere in the Library. As an example, many publications concerning Northwestern Ontario are listed in the Online Catalogue and are located in the Northern Studies Resource Centre. If you require assistance in finding these publications please ask at the Reference Desk.

Materials in the CODOC Collection are shelved alphabetically according to the CODOC shelf number. The publication, Economic Analysis of Forestry Management Practices issued in 1994 by the Great Lakes Forestry Centre has the call number CA1 FR461 94N03 which means:

FR461 = Canadian Forestry Service, Great Lakes Forestry Centre
94N03 = Publication date (94) Series number (N03)

BORROWING

The majority of materials in the CODOC Collection may be borrowed for three weeks. Publications with the symbol DOC by the shelf number must be used in the Library.
